Fiction Group Legal Basics

If you are interested in joinning the Guild of Blades Fiction Group, first make sure you read the legal basics to your right, then also read the overview on the Fiction Group's business mode. If you are still interested after reading these items, you will need to follow the next two steps.

Step 1: E-mail the Guild. The Fiction Group is being spearheaded by company CEO, Ryan Johnson. When contacting us, make sure to include your full name, address (where Royalty checks would be addressed and mailed to), and phone number. Be sure to attach a sample of your writing, and include any previous publishing credits you have. If you have a preference to the Guild property you would like to write for, list that as well.

Step 2: Join the Fiction Group List. The Fiction Group work list is a private e-mail list hosted on Yahoogroups.com. This list will be the primary communication vehicle for the Fiction Group. You must do both steps one and two to be considered for participation in the Fiction Group.

1) Guild of Blades Fiction Authors are *NOT* employees of the Guild of Blades. They are freelance authors. As such, any creative work we publish will be accompanied by a signed contract from the author. Once you join the Fiction Group and are ready to submit materials, we will provide you with a copy of the appropriate contract.

2) Most, if not all of the short pieces written for the web site will be written royalty free. The website works will be used largely as a marketing vehicle to promote the Fiction Group as a whole and the authors work for the Fiction Group.

3) All materials published by the Fiction Group will be published under an closed license arrangement. This means that while the author maintains the copyright, the Guild of Blades will have an extensive set of rights to use that materials in any of its publications and for marketing purposes. This license will also grant other authors writting for the Fiction Group to utilize those materials, or elements thereof in other works for the Fiction Group. In this capacity works written for the Fiction Group shall function as if under an open license, but it fact only be open to the company and other Fiction Group authors for works they write under contract for the Fiction Group.

4) Actual for-sale fiction novels written by the Fiction Group authors shall earn the author royalties for books sold. Make sure to read the Fiction Group's business model for details on royalty amounts and payment schedules.

5) While the copyrights on works published by the Fiction Group remain owned by the individual others, most intellectual property elements will become owned by the Guild of Blades and be for use under the general group license. However, authors shall be guaranteed additional royalty compensations should those intellectual properties be sub-licensed for use by third party entities (such as for Comics, Movies, Toys, TV, etc).
