I know there is a topic about this, but it is locked, and I wanted to make a point of the importance of fleets. Although they take a few turns to create a capable fleet and a large amount of rp's, the super powers of the game (the few countries that first reach 100 or so rp's) must have them if they wish to survive. Fleets are so versatile that they force the other super powers to also create fleets. In one game, i currently have the most powerful fleet by far. I have 2 different fleets, 1 in the English Channel and 1 in the Mediteranian. Both are more powerful than any other fleet in the world, and they are allowing me to dictate some terms of the game.
If I was attacked, I could immediatly destroy another nations fleet and land troops behind their lines within seconds.
I have no border with my ally, but because everyone knows he is my ally who I am willing to go to war for, he is also protected.
My large fleet is causing a sort of nuclear arms race, except with fleets, and should they begin to catch up, I can destroy their fleets to mantain superiority.
I think fleets are honestly a neccessity for any one that wants to win a game or have large influence in 1483. They were important in real life for a reason!
