Fantasy Board Game
A Talisman Variant*(1)

The Worlds of Heroes & Tyrants fantasy board game is easy to learn, modeled after the classic board game, Talisman, by Games Workshop Ltd. Its design is meant to provide a similar game play "feel", yet offer a diverse range of different strategic options.

Game Play:

Players begin by selecting one of the 15 available characters (16 if you get the unique character offered in the special Pre Order edition). Each character is placed in its starting territory designated in the rules. Initiative is rolled to establish turn orders. The deck of Quest Cards is shuffled and each player draws three cards.

The Goal: Players may win the game in one of two ways. In the first, players must travel towards the center of the board, increasing their abilities until they feel ready to confront and defeat the Chaos Lord there. If they defeat the Chaos Lord and capture its special talisman, then they must return to their home territory (the one they begin play in) while avoiding defeat by the other players. The second route to victory lay in the completion of the three quests given each player at the start of play.

The Game Turn:

The first player selects a territory adjacent to the territory his character is in, the moves his character into the selected territory. If that territory is Blue, Yellow, or Red, the player then draws one Event card from the stack of cards corresponding with that color. (event cards get progressively more challenging as players move from Blue, then Yellow, and then Red territories). The Event card will pitt the character against a monster or some other challenge. If the character overcomes the challenge then he will be rewarded; if not, then he will suffer a penalty. Each event card lists the reward and the penalty to be had, pending the outcome of the challenge. Black bordered territories function differently. Each black bordered territory has its very own random event chart; some with unique challenges, others with mystical and other effects.

Monsters and Challenges:

Each character has a number of character attributes. These are Strength, Intelligence, Dexterity, and Hit Points. Each player may also collect specialized weapon and equipment cards, money, followers, and maybe even slaves. When confronted by a challenge, most challenges will pitt the character against its foe using one of the four attributes (Mostly Strength, Intelligence, and Dexterity), but some of the more unusual challenges might be against monet, weapons, or slaves. Challenges are resolved using a D10. The player rolls a D10, adding the result to the attribute being challenged. On a result of "10" the player gets to add an additional D10 result to the ongoing total. One of the other players then rolls the opposition roll, also using an open ended D10. If the player rolls higher than the opposition, then they will have overcome the challenge.

Weapons, Followers, and Slaves:

Weapons & Equipment: These are special weapons, armor, and equipment cards players collect along the way. But guard them carefully because other players might take them fron you.

Followers: As players travel around the board they have the opportunity to gather dedicated followers. Once recruited these followers get to travel around the board just like characters, encountering challenges and improving themselves. They may even be able to go on to defeat the Chaos Lord or complete quests the character himself is unable to do.

Slaves: Not all questing characters are nice guys. And its a mean universe out there. Meaning some characters may get the option of purchase slaves. Slaves only serve one real purpose. If a character gets into an encounter they really wish they hadn't, they may command a slave to fight in their place. Naturally slaves stand no chance of achieving victory. For you Sci-Fi lovers, merely think of them as your ever handy "Red Shirts".

Well, that's pretty much it. Sounds pretty simple doesn't it? That's
because it is. But its also a whole lot of fun. Give it a try.
